Exsel Pumps is a specialist pump rental company, offering unique solutions to the most difficult pumping requirements.
The exsel Special Projects Team recently completed a double pipe-bridge installation in Guernsey, to overpump raw sewage. This unique capability allows minimal traffic disruption and a vastly reduced cost with no excavations necessary.
The pipe is a temporary measure, while the existing storm outfall is disconnected from the Belle Greve Wastewater Centre.
Geomarine, the firm behind the project, said it was a precaution, in case of a heavy downpour and would not be used for normal wastewater discharge.
Wastewater will be discharged using the current long sea outfall.
The pipe is 5.4 metres (17.7ft) above road level and spans a total of 18 metres (59ft), in two sections. It will be in place for approximately three months, after which, it will be dismantled and removed from the site.
The short sea outfall, which is being disconnected, is only used in times of peak flow and during storms. It is more than 100 years old and in a poor state of repair. This will be replaced with one of two new outfalls, which will be buried beneath the beach and discharged much further into the sea.
